Recent Recordings

The last twelve months...

Over the last 12 months Siberian Studios has offered it's audio services in the north of the United Kingdom, attracting talented musicians from various genres. Recent artists include solo singer-songwriters, duos, composers and writers of musicals as well as those who have never been near a recording studio before. All have been able to take advantage of our ability to crafted their original ideas and music. We have also been able to offer a live mixing and recording service including working with a visual arts team to record videos of live performances.

It has been a very busy year including completing albums for three separate singer-songwriters, one of which is already available on Spotify, Youtube etc - aswell as individual songs for half a dozen other artists.

Below are some excerpts of these artist's recordings.

JOHN KNIGHTON

John organises and leads several local acoustic evenings for experienced and 'new to performing' musicians who contribute to a relaxed and varied atmosphere of original and 'old favourites' music which is appreciated by all who attend.

John himself has written many, many songs over the years and plays in a variety of genres from ballad to blues.

I first heard John play his original song 'Don't Go Down The Pit' 2 years ago and asked him where I would find a recording. I was amazed to find it had not been recorded so I seized the chance and offered the services of SIberian Studios; its a great track.

John was very pleased with what I brought to his composition about the dangers miners of the northern coalfields faced.

Uilleann pipes, Orchestral backing, a percussion track and voices of actual miners were just some of the addition I made to illustrate his original idea.

This is the first song I recorded with John.

We went on to record a further nine tracks together, creating a collection of his work in one album called 'Enjoy the Ride' which is available on Spotify, YouTube etc. You can hear more of it here...

MIKE STONE

As well as being a skilled singer, guitarist and harmonica player Mike Stone is a very talented lyricist often combining traditional melodies with humourous verse that has his audience giggling into their beer!

An exponent of the double capo method for using alternate tunings, his recordings provided an opportunity to use more unusual instrumentation to compliment the sonic range of his guitar.

We recorded nine tracks together all of which are real gems and collected on his latest CD 'No Cougettes' after the title track. On a few tracks I was also able to add (at his request) some sound effects to enhance the comedic impact of the words being sung. One such example is his version of 'Fifty Shades Of Grey', a reworking of the Pam Ayres poem of the same name. Click below to listen but be warned - its not for the faint of heart - or children!!!

IAN BUSBY

When I first saw Ian performing he seemed fairly new to it all and he told me he had never been in a recording environment before. However, his appetite for learning extended well beyond just singing and playing live and he embraced the opportunity to see and hear what a modern recording studio could do; he even eventually ended up writing and recording two of his own compositions along with seven other cover versions of his favourite live songs to play.

Through practice and dedication Ian has developed the ability to finger-pick with impressive accuracy & timing and whilst of course adjustments can now be made digitally, this was never needed when recording Ian's playing often getting the 'final take' first time! A recording engineer's dream! An example of this is his version of Roxy Music's 'Oh Yeah!' His first time accuracy provided me with the opportunity to concentrate even more on the orchestration and harmonies that would embelish and enhance his work.
